UK REACH – Are You Prepared for What’s Coming?

Since the introduction of REACH in 2007, the Chemical Business Association has been and continues to be heavily involved in the shaping and implementation of the regulation.

Following the Brexit referendum, the Chemical Business Association called for clarity from the UK Government on the future of REACH and for UK companies to continue to have frictionless access to the EU market.

Specific details were not clear throughout the transition period until the EU REACH Regulation was ‘copied across’ into UK law on the 1st of January 2021, and a series of Statutory Instruments (SI) enacted. This resulted in the creation of UK REACH although Northern Ireland remains part of EU REACH.

When the first draft of the UK REACH guidance document was issued, the Chemical Business Association highlighted various issues and lobbied UK Government and Defra achieving a significant number of revisions. It has additionally been a leading stakeholder in proposing a solution to the crucial issue of access to testing data and a potential compromise as part of an industry working group.

This panel session will provide up to date advice on the requirements and operational processes as well as serving as a reminder in advance of the downstream user import notification (DUIN) deadline of the 28th of October 2021. Companies that do not have any obligations under EU REACH may also discover that UK REACH will change how they need to manage their chemical portfolios within the UK and Europe.

Life After EU: Threats & Opportunities

Maintaining an effective and efficient supply chain is essential, particularly as businesses are under pressure to provide ever decreasing lead times and “just in time” deliveries.

However, years of complex supply chains between the UK and EU were drastically affected on the 1st January 2021 as the Trade Cooperation Act agreed by the UK and EU just days before came into force, resulting in considerable new obligations and formalities for trade between Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the EU.

The COVID-19 pandemic and incidents such as the grounding of the container ship “Ever Given” in the Suez Canal Crisis have further heavily impacted supply chains, creating imbalances and bottlenecks leading to ever decreasing availability of shipping containers and rapidly increasing costs.

As a key influencer, the Chemical Business Association has provided a multitude of specialist workshops as well as answering an unprecedented number of technical enquires from our Members on topics such as customs formalities, Rules of Origin, tariff classification, in addition to providing support and advice on how to maintain connectivity between the UK the EU and the rest of the world, whether that is by road, air or sea.  This presentation will explore the various issues for your supply chain going forward, highlighting both the threats and opportunities going forward.

Advanced Defoaming Technologies for Controlling Foam

Foam control is critical for the optimal performance of cleaning systems.  Each system is unique in formulation and performance requirements, multiple defoaming technologies maybe necessary to satisfy the formulation parameters. The presentation will focus on defoaming technologies including state-of-the-art 3-dimensional (3D) siloxanes, silicones and “renewable” range chemistries.  3D siloxane products represent the most powerful defoaming technology available. The vegetable oils provide a greener alternative for sustainability, non-toxicity and biodegradability.

This presentation introduces MÜNZING CHEMIE as a specialist provider in foam control products whilst providing awareness into defoaming technology.

MÜNZING CHEMIE is over 180 years old, producing specialty additives for a multitude of applications.
