UK REACH – Are You Prepared for What’s Coming?

Time: 9:30 am - 10:10 am

Date: Tuesday 7 September

Since the introduction of REACH in 2007, the Chemical Business Association has been and continues to be heavily involved in the shaping and implementation of the regulation.

Following the Brexit referendum, the Chemical Business Association called for clarity from the UK Government on the future of REACH and for UK companies to continue to have frictionless access to the EU market.

Specific details were not clear throughout the transition period until the EU REACH Regulation was ‘copied across’ into UK law on the 1st of January 2021, and a series of Statutory Instruments (SI) enacted. This resulted in the creation of UK REACH although Northern Ireland remains part of EU REACH.

When the first draft of the UK REACH guidance document was issued, the Chemical Business Association highlighted various issues and lobbied UK Government and Defra achieving a significant number of revisions. It has additionally been a leading stakeholder in proposing a solution to the crucial issue of access to testing data and a potential compromise as part of an industry working group.

This panel session will provide up to date advice on the requirements and operational processes as well as serving as a reminder in advance of the downstream user import notification (DUIN) deadline of the 28th of October 2021. Companies that do not have any obligations under EU REACH may also discover that UK REACH will change how they need to manage their chemical portfolios within the UK and Europe.
